With football season in full swing, avid sports fans across the country are proudly sporting logoed hats, shirts and team memorabilia to show their support for the teams they love. And, within the multi-billion dollar “fan-ware” industry one item stands out time and time again for its popularity and functionality. No, it’s not the personalized jersey -- it’s the baseball cap!

Recognized internationally as an American classic, the rounded-top cap dates back to 1849 when the New York Knickerbockers adopted the first official baseball uniform and elected to include the brimmed hat to protect a player’s eyes from the sun. In the mid-1940’s latex rubber was incorporated into the original “floppy style” hat to create a more structured “brim” and the modern baseball cap was born.
